Seance: Bewitching Scents for Your Perfect Eternal Rest

Share this:

When it comes to the human sensory system, our brains respond with a remarkable intensity to smell. A scent so quickly can remind us of a person, bring up a specific memory, or fill us with the desire to get closer to something or someone. Lacey Walker, the founder of Seance, is fascinated with the power of smell. This interest combined with her inherent intuitive abilities led her to making unique scent experiences.

In the decidedly un-gloomy state of California, Seance creates “hauntingly beautiful scents for those who want to be remembered.” These fragrances come in two ways: as perfumes, or as luxuriously scented candles. (Either way, we’re sold.) Her product range is vegan-friendly. Oils are made from coconut and essential oils, and the candles are made from natural soy wax.

If you’ve been on the witchier side of Instagram lately, you’ve probably seen enamored Seance customers sharing pictures of their purchases. Really, why wouldn’t they? The packaging of these lovelies, with their Victorian scrollwork corners and beautifully swooping lettering, are irresistibly photogenic. When it comes to branding, it’s safe to say Walker has hit the nail right on the head. Her creepy cohorts are hooked.

Each scent has its own unique DNA, from floral to musky to sweet and all the in-betweens. For, example Parlor Ghost has notes of black tea, bergamot, and lavender. Laveau, on the other hand, is a more straightforward blend of sandalwood and bourbon. Parlor Ghost Perfume Oil//$22

Keeping with the Victorian theme, Seance also sells glass perfume bottles styled after lachrymatory bottles. These “tear catchers” were used in antique mourning rituals. To amplify the aesthetic, the basic bottle and heart-shaped version are also offered on strands of black mourning beads. You choose which scent you would like to have in your pendant, and Séance will send you the bottle carefully filled and ready to wear. Our Darling Heart Bottle//$38

If you’re interested in seeing what all the buzz is about, they offer trial-size packs so you can test out a few different scents before you commit to one full-sized bottle. Customers can find Seance products in a handful of brick-and-mortar locations in California and Pennsylvania, and in one location in Canada. Online, you can find more about the brand on their website, their Facebook, or their Instagram. 3 Scent Sample Pack//$20
