The Dragon’s Tail: The Mystic Monthly Beauty Installment

Beauty box subscriptions are all the rage these days. Indie makeup brand Notoriously Morbid Cosmetics has been knocking it out of the park for years with their Vanishing Cabinet subscription service, but it’s their new one that has darklings buzzing with excitement. Introducing Mystic Monthly, a themed beauty box subscription specifically catered to lipstick fanatics with a flair for the dark side.

Each month, a package will arrive at your door for just $10 ($16 for international subscribers) containing two full-size lip products; one of these items will always be an exclusive Mystic Matte lipstick that is only available in the box, while the other item may be any other full-size lip product the brand carries.

This year’s Mystic Monthly theme is “The Dragon’s Tail,” which was co-created by beauty blogger Jolie K. The products you receive in the box will be inspired by a different dragon every month along with a card that includes details about the dragon itself and how inspiration was sparked. Get ready to expect lots of sparkles, duochrome, and dimensional lip products from this collection!

The items will arrive in a clear plastic baggie along with a little sweet treat! The brand is known to always include a lollipop, bonbon, or other piece of candy to satisfy your sweet tooth in each package they send out. All their products are also cruelty-free, heavenly scented, and made with ingredients you can actually pronounce.

The Mystic Matte lipstick itself comes in sleek packaging with a matte black lid and clear tube with a doe-foot applicator. While the formula is thin and will leak if the bottle is tilted, the product feels comfortable on the lips and can withstand all-day wear. Unlike other liquid lipsticks on the market, this one won’t dry your lips out or feel chunky if reapplied.

So far, Notoriously Morbid has released two installments of this subscription with February’s dragon being the “Fuku Riu,” known in Japanese mythology for bringing good fortune. The lipstick is a fiery shade of orange with a gold sheen that will magically appear on the lips once they are pressed together. Also included in the February box is the Sprite Lip Shimmer in the shade “Ice and Fire,” which is a blue-toned shimmery balm that’s great for soothing chapped lips in these winter months.

For those interested in signing up for Mystic Monthly, there is a wait list you can be added to on their website that will let you know when a spot is available to sign up. Otherwise, the subscription opens up the 20th of every month for new subscribers until the 22nd, and boxes are typically mailed out within 5 business day after the billing cycle ends.
